New updated brief

Brief Title:
I’ve got this mate called Josh

The Brief:
Design & produce a visual identity for a new up & coming music label.

Concept / Proposition:
N.D.N.R Records
Bass driven music, 4 artists one love.

Considerations:
What is a visual identity? How far and how big can you make this, what are the possibilities?
Some of the artists also need some form of a visual identity, a logo is a necessity, anything more is up to you.

Target Audience:
Young, mixed sex, roughly 16 - 30 year olds with an interest in electronic, dance bass driven music.
Who listens to the kind of music, where is it played and who goes there?

Tone of Voice:
Youthful, professional, Underground

Background:

N.D.N.R Records stands for No Dice No Risk. The label specialises in electronic dance music, mainly drum’n’bass, jungle, dubstep and occasionally dub & reggae. The artists signed onto the label are all young male DJ’s based around Leeds, London, birmingham & liverpool. They are, Unkle Filth, Crutch, Tigga & DJ Rory. The label will be constant releasing tracks, remixes & monthly mixes.

Mandatory Requirements:
Visual Identity for NDNR Records.

Deliverables:
An appropriate presentation of your designs.
Boards presenting your design process & development.

. Final logo design for NDNR / 4 DJ's
. Business cards for Josh as owner of NDNR
. Business cards for each DJ, forming a set of NDNR artist business cards.
. Stationary & merchandise set for NDNR:
letterheads, compliments slip, envelope, DJ Cartridges, slipmats, Tee's,
. Merch for DJ's:
Tee's, and New Era hats.

Final Boards

final board designs for the brief. Another 8 boards, same as the first brief. Again I've used eight as I believe I need that many to portray all the work I've done for the project effectively and appropriately.

Contexts

Showing here the record label in context of its online presence. I had talked of proposing a website earlier on in the brief, however as time passed and I started to realise the amount of work I was to produce for the other briefs I sacked it off. Instead of this I have mocked up social network and music specific profiles on mainstream websites, Facebook & Myspace.
They are really quite handy for getting out to a selected audience / fans and ore importantly are free. Myspace also allows some decent customisation of pages, however it is as complicated to follow as performing brain surgery.
None the less here showing the pages as they would look...

Digital merchandise

Thinking further with the range, specifically digital based products. One option, desktop backgrounds / wallpapers.
Again keeping the visual identity growing, same design, different format.

Then cropped and shaped and put in the format of...
A desktop background

Iphone wallpaper, also available on the Ipad.

Quick simple ideas like this yet still pushing the whole brand forward, expanding the range and formats that NDNR can be seen / used on.

Photography for Boards

Taking the printed products I have for this brief and doing my best to photograph them. Trying them on different backgrounds and various different lighting.

DJ Range / Slipmats

Adding some more Slipmat designs, this time specific to the DJ's using the same design once more. Like these as being part of a visual identity for a DJ. Could imagine A DJ style stationary, headphones, decks, cartridges, slipmats, vinyl sleeve. Something to keep in mind for next time I think!

DJ Range / Tee's

Here taking the basic T-shirt designs and mocking them up on some tee models. Some look a little more convincing than others, I've never been awesome at Photoshop.

The Unkle Filth in white, Tigger on the baseball shirt, Rawree on black and Crutch on white are the best ones I feel, fortunately enough thats one for each DJ, result.

DJ Range / Tee's

An obvious product to propose, but it fits in with the culture / music scene. People are always willing to buy things to group them in with their fave music scene! Typical youth culture.
Idea was to just have one tee for each DJ, just using the logo essentially.
The logos being designed to be quite decorative and interesting / more exciting style of logos.

Simple with logo on centre of chest. Possibly a bit mundane.
Adding the logo, spicy!

Playing with keeping the same designs through the project going over the t shirts.
Wasn't really keen on these designs, bit plain and boring, however I do want to keep the designs fairly simple. Think I will experiment with the frame of a t-shirt, see how large and where the logo can fit other than just in the middle of the chest...
This leading me to these finalised designs...

Crutch is my favourite, the logo fits well when covering the whole thing, specially being black and white itself, something I'd definitely want to have / buy. This being the general consensus when designing things like T-shirts. I don't intend on making these T-shirts, too time consuming considering all the other projects I'm juggling and with printing being chaotic, not good! but I shall mock these up in a proper way soon.

DJ Range / New Era

One product that I thought may be a little different and new, would be customized New Era hats. These are very much appropriate to the scene and type of music being represented through the music label. Simply having the DJ's logo in the hat, each hat being the specific DJ colour... The problem was mocking them so they'd look ok, here's my attempts so far...

You get the general idea and look, so thats ok, but I think they could look better.
Found this template online somewhere, took it into Photoshop , bucket tool for colour and warp to try and create the effect of the logo really being on there but also being 3D'ish as they will not be printed flat onto them...

With a little more time and tweaking these will look better, I hope so anyway.
Finally got these on here! The other mock ups, think these look a bit better and more convincing than the first applications.

Some look better than others, but it gives you a good enough idea of what I propose.

NDNR / DJ Prints

Photographs and everything I've printed so far, business cards / stationary set & slipmat.
The stationary set and business cards were done in the Mac rooms as I was denied 5 times to get in the dungoen (weather / illness / no appearance / the god of technology being against me). This wasn't such a problem though, as I just needed white paper for the letter heads etc but the slip mat and business cards were a bit of a pain.
Having to print both sides, then cut out v carefully and then v carefully spray mount them to some thin card, which then had to be cut down very carefully.
They came out alright though tbf along with some war wounds. The slipmat had to be 2 A3's then carefully cut and stuck down together so the design lined up, bit annoying! but got there in the end...
There was one slight hiccup, when I first printed everything the light grey didnt show up on the design so therefore neither did the logo, this was a big problemo. So I had to go back to the designs and darken the grey on all of it. However, upon doing this because the colours were set to multiply (original) it made the brighter colour very dark and, well shit! So I had to scrap the multiply, if it were printed in the dungeon I dont think this would have been an issue, but considering time left and work I want to get done I'm happy to leave it at this, still looks pretty sweet I feel! Hasn't made it look any worse anyway.

Really happy with the outcome, my photography could do with some work, but I've never claimed to be a photographer, I am simply awful at it! But fortunately my work doesn't suffer too much because of it. Strong visual body of work. More to come.
