. Are my videos too simple?
. Is the style i have used suitable & relevant to the subject?
. Would my idents benefit from having the context of a channel within them?
. Is there a weak spot within my Design Process?
. Does my design process show logical thought towards creative decisions?
MITCH GIBBONS – FINAL CRIT FEEDBACK – 3rd FEBRUARY 2010
ReplyDeletePROBLEM ANALYSIS
+ Few holes in Problem Analysis, the process has been documented well.
- Why the jump to using kinetic type? Maybe the biggest gap in decision making is explaing this. A simplified summary of rationale / design decisions would help assessment. (The info is there; just perhaps condense down to a simple post)
CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDING
+ Good analysis of relative film prom material. Quotes used seem to be hitting the specific target audience.
– Not enough of the context comes through to the current idents. Little kinetic type research that is relevant to brief.
RESEARCH
+ Quantity of information-based research was unexpected, but great.
- Potential avenue for ‘inventive research’ could be to survey people to find the funniest quotes from the selected films. Also, why do people find them funny? Is it the visuals or the dialogue by itself, or the combination? Could inform design direction. Relate research back to design decisions, makes these links clearer.
CRITICAL AWARENESS
+ Thorough examples of critical analysis of own development show blog.
- More critical analysis of secondary material is required. Potential for improvement in development if critical analysis of secondary material matched that of the primary material.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
+ Thorough documentation of your own development.
– Biggest hole as identified above, analysis of secondary design could influence your ident more in a positive way. Justify your decisions.
VISUAL QUALITY
+ Great test pieces and illustrations evident on blog.
- Illustrations / development work are not appearing in your idents, but are among the strongest and most identifiable aspects of your development. This extra material should give you more scope to create variations, with your current idents as a safe fallback. Illustration inclusion could increase ident complexity if that’s a concern.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCE
+ Pre-Christmas work showed camera / 3d skills. Vector illustrations show promise, just some tweaks to stroke widths / weights required. You could use these assets.
- Could look at lighting / blurring the text. Effects may help it sit on the page better. Looks very vectorish at present., with no attention to depth. Could be a useful avenue to explore.
